The prize, donated by the family of former student Jonathan Witchell who died suddenly in 2007, rewards outstanding student work in the field of radio features production, as well as providing inspiration for students wishing to pursue a career in broadcasting.

Jonathan was a graduate of the MSc in Media Management in 1997. After graduating from Stirling Jonathan moved in to radio from where he started his career his BBC career at Radio Devon, before moving on to Radio Lincolnshire. He then joined BBC Radio Kent in 1997 where he worked for nearly a decade.

Commenting on the winning production Jonathan’s family, Tom, Chloe and Giles thought the winning production was the most measured and carefully constructed piece of work among the final entrants.  They commented, “We were given more information about the topic of ‘geocaching’ and how to go about it, and an attractive radio picture of the Ochil Hills. We liked the way it linked in with web pages too and made us aware that it was all part of something bigger and continuing.” The family thanked the department for establishing the prize, concluding, “What an honour it has been to be involved with your student groups and to send them all our good wishes for the future.”

The prize of gift vouchers was presented to the students by Suzy Angus, coordinator of the Radio Features module.
